McGuire Woods LLP
As head of litigation for McGuire Woods’ Baltimore office, Ava Lias-Booker has worked on a number of significant legal cases involving Fortune 100 firms. She also is one of the firm’s managing partners and one of only a few African American women to hold this position at a top 100 law firm.
She serves on the board at the Enoch Pratt Free Library and as a transition team member for Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby.
I moved to Maryland in 1983 to attend the University of Maryland Francis Carey School of Law and that decision would change the trajectory of my life in ways I never imagined. I was fortunate to have professors who took a personal interest in my success and believed, even before I did, that I could become a successful partner in a major law firm. At that time, there were not many women, let alone minority women, lawyers in major Baltimore law firms. Today, I am proud to be a managing partner of one of the 21 offices of McGuireWoods LLP, an international law firm and the head of its Baltimore litigation practice.
