Carol A. Beatty heads the first and only cabinet-level department in the United States that focuses solely on cross-disability issues. MDOD’s mission is to change Maryland for the better by promoting equality of opportunity, access, and choice for Marylanders with disabilities.

Prior to joining the state government in March 2015, Beatty served nearly 21 years as executive director of The Arc of Howard County.

A childhood survivor of polio, Beatty has been working with her staff to develop a network of volunteers for the department.
