Debra Davis
Commissioner
Charles County
An attorney, Debra Davis is serving her second term as a Charles County commissioner and currently serves as the Board of Commissioner’s vice president. She is the first African American to chair the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland.
She also is responsible for creating Vision 2020, the county’s anti-poverty initiative, which she drafted at her kitchen table with grass roots leaders from the county’s most impoverished areas. Forty families have completed this two-year program, learning to navigate employment, housing, transportation and education resources.
Why Maryland?
Maryland has always been my home. My ancestors were African-American landowners in Southern Maryland in the early 1900s, so Maryland holds a special historical significance for me and my family as generations before me sacrificed and built the legacy on which I now stand.
My husband, Chris, and I were afforded the opportunity to educate our daughters in Maryland, which offers some of the best public school systems in the nation. I earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Maryland colleges, leaving with a quality education and foundation for achieving my professional goals.
