When Raquel Gilmer took over as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Learning Systems Inc., the company’s financial situation looked bleak. After a year of retooling, Gilmer had put together a stronger, more focused team that helped the company exceed both its academic and financial targets.

Gilmer currently is a volunteer officer with the Lillian May Carroll Jackson Charter School and was the past chair of Tutor Our Children.
