As odd as it seems, Sen. Brian Frosh’s decision to run for attorney general could have an immediate effect on family law legislation in the House of Delegates. That’s because both Frosh and the current chair of the House Judiciary’s Family Law Subcommittee, Del. Susan C. Lee, are both from Bethesda, and Lee is running for the Montgomery County Senate seat Frosh will leave behind.
No word yet on whether the title will go to one of the other subcommittee members, Delegates John W.E. Cluster Jr. of Baltimore County and Susan K. McComas of Harford County — both of whom are Republicans — or to a Democrat to be named later. The decision belongs to Judiciary Chairman Joseph D. Vallario. Of course, if he needs advice on making the pick, he can always consult with Judiciary’s vice-chair: family-law attorney Kathleen Dumais, D-Montgomery, who chaired the subcommittee until 2011.
