BGE preparing for potential Irene outages

Baltimore Gas and Electric says it is arranging for several hundred linemen and support staff from outside its service area to help deal with stormy weather from Hurricane Irene.

BGE says additional resources will arrive Thursday and Friday to deal with outages if they occur. The utility is also warning customers that the storm could bring heavy rains and high winds to the area with the potential to knock out power for days in some cases.

The utility, which serves more than 1.2 million electric customers in central Maryland, says the storm’s track currently has the peak impact in its service area lasting from Saturday afternoon through early Sunday.
