Dr. Amritha Jaishankar joined the Maryland Technology Development Corp. (TEDCO) as the program manager for the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund (MSCRF) and Dr. John Gustin has been named award manager for TEDCO’s Maryland Innovation Initiative (MII).

jaishankar-amritha-tedcoIn this role, Jaishankar manages the MSCRF active award portfolio and is responsible for scientific management and oversight of these research projects. She interacts with stem cell scientists state-wide to develop a collaborative research program and to help promote commercialization of stem cell technologies in Maryland. She earned a master’s degree and doctorate in genetics and has more than 10 years of experience in stem cell research. Prior to joining TEDCO, she was a scientist at LIBD/Johns Hopkins.

gustin-john-tedcoAs award manager, Gustin helps guide MII awardees to successful completion of their projects and identifies/coordinates areas of support needed to further commercialize these university technologies.  The MII is a $5.8 million program investing in commercialization and start-up companies spinning out of five participating universities; Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland, Baltimore; University of Maryland, Baltimore County; University of Maryland, College Park and Morgan State.

Prior to joining TEDCO, John served in several roles at the university-based startup Remedium Technologies (now Gel-e). While there, Gustin was part of the team that submitted the company’s first successful 510k application to the FDA for its lead hemostatic product. Before arriving at Remedium, he previously founded several startups in the algal biofuels space. He has a doctorate in chemical and biomolecular engineering.
