A man who attacked veteran Baltimore activist A. Robert Kaufman with a brick and stole his wallet in December has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Thirty-eight-year-old Steven Carr pleaded guilty in May to robbery with a deadly weapon in the attack on Kaufman at his West Baltimore home.

Baltimore Circuit Judge Wanda K. Heard sentenced Carr to 15 years in prison, with all but three years suspended. Carr will serve the three years concurrently with a two-year term for a probation violation in a previous drug case.

Kaufman, a socialist who’s running for mayor as a Democrat, spoke at the hearing, saying Carr should get drug rehabilitation and counseling.
