UM company wins Cupid’s Cup competition

Earth Starter LLC, a garden products business started by two University of Maryland graduates, was the top winner in the eighth annual Cupid’s Cup Business Competition held at the UM campus in College Park.

The event, in its first year as a national business competition, was hosted by the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Cupid’s Cup is sponsored by alumnus Kevin Plank, founder and CEO of Baltimore-based Under Armour Inc.

Earth Starter, which makes a modular garden kit called Nourishmat, won $52,500 as well as exclusive access to Plank’s professional network.

Six companies from universities in Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, Florida and California were finalists in this year’s competition.
