Alleged squatter at Bethesda home again charged with theft, burglary

A man who was arrested after police said he tried to move into a Bethesda home without the owner’s knowledge has been indicted on charges including theft and burglary. According to a Montgomery County police report, James Crombie was arrested Sept. 23 after the homeowner reported Crombie and his family were moving in. The owner told officers he hadn’t sold the house. Initial charges were dropped in January, but county prosecutors then sought Thursday’s grand jury indictment. Crombie didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment. A woman who answered the phone at the office of Rebecca Nitkin, an attorney who represented him last month, said Nitkin had no comment. A separate police report says Crombie used another person’s name to lease an SUV. The indictment alleges Crombie stole that man’s identity.
