JENNIFER COX

A teacher by trade, Jennifer Cox founded Empower4Life in May 2015 after volunteering to work with homeless children at the Eastside Family Emergency Shelter in Rosedale.

Now she works as a pupil personnel worker with the Baltimore County Schools, helping to reduce dropout rates and remove educational barriers.
What do you consider your most significant professional accomplishment to be?
I launched a 501 (c) (3) NPO from the ground up with nothing but a burning desire to make a difference in my community. This desire came after years of observing the impact that poverty has on children and their ability to adequately access their education. We now facilitate a comprehensive educational program across six of our partner shelters. We run an interactive five-week summer camp that works to close the learning gap for children experiencing homelessness. We also distribute thousands of material resources throughout the year to remove barriers for children and their families.
Do you have a quote you live by?
“Develop enough courage so that you can stand up for yourself and then stand up for somebody else.”
