JetBlue Airways, an American low-cost airline, announced over the weekend it would add nearly a dozen cities to its flight service, one of which being Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
Headquartered in New York City, JetBlue said in an announcement May 2 it “is stepping in to support Spirit customers and team members affected by the airline’s shutdown.” The airline plans to begin service at BWI Marshall Airport on July 9, Maryland Aviation Administration officials confirmed.
As part of the expansion, JetBlue will offer three daily flights between BWI and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, along with additional service between BWI and Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, set to launch Nov. 2.
“We are thrilled to welcome JetBlue, which means more convenience and more access to key travel destinations,” BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport Executive Director and CEO Shannetta Griffin said in a release. “
We remain committed to working with airlines to strengthen and expand air service opportunities. At BWI Marshall Airport, we look forward to a successful partnership with JetBlue to benefit our passengers and the region.”
According to state transportation officials, the addition of JetBlue reflects ongoing demand for air travel, underscoring the strength of the regional market.
BWI Marshall Airport offers roughly 300 daily nonstop departures to about 90 domestic and international destinations.
