Eastern Shore museum to unveil new exhibits at reopening after funding scare
After an initial closure scare, the Delmarva Discovery Museum is gearing up for its grand reopening celebration this week.
The museum initially announced that its last day in operation would be March 20, 2026, due to financial challenges.
However, thanks to the support of countless committed community members, the museum was able to remain in operation after its emergency fundraising campaign raised well over $100,000.
The museum is currently making progress toward its new fundraising goal of $200,000, which will further strengthen the museum’s future and continued building and exhibit improvements.
The museum, a popular destination for children’s groups, has been open on Market Street in downtown Pocomoke City since 2008. It held a 10th anniversary celebration in July 2018.
The grand reopening celebration will take place on May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum, located at 2 Market St. in Pocomoke City. A ribbon-cutting will occur at 10 a.m.
The celebration, free to attend, will feature brand-new exhibits, outdoor activities for all ages, games, contests, an auction and the museum’s most beloved attraction: Otters Mac and Tuck.
“Visitors returning to the museum will experience drastic improvements throughout the building, including refreshed exhibits, updated spaces, new interpretive features, and exciting experiences designed to inspire guests of all ages,” the Delmarva Discovery Museum shared online, adding that reopening day promises to be unforgettable.
