Palmer found in contempt, fined

Former Baltimore Orioles pitching ace Jim Palmer yesterday was found in contempt of a domestic relations agreement he entered into in December with his former wife, Joan H. Palmer. Circuit Court Judge James T. Smith Jr. ordered Palmer to pay $13,500 toward Joan Palmer’s attorneys fees after Palmer failed to transfer $175,000 to Joan Palmer from the James A. Palmer Enterprises Inc. Money Purchase Pension Plan and Trust. “We are pleased to know that Hall of Famers are obliged to follow court orders like anybody else rather than ignore them,” said Joan Palmer’s attorney, Geoffrey H. Genth. The judgment goes on to divide other property held by the couple, and gives both parities the right to “walk through” their Forrest Road and Florida homes to identify personal property. Jim Palmer filed for divorce in April 1999, but Joan Palmer continued to serve as his agent and investment advisor until August 1999, according to court documents. A Baltimore County court granted the couple a divorce last May. Yesterday’s order gives the Palmers until July 2 to distribute jointly held property.
