Lockheed Martin Corp., of Bethesda, the world’s largest defense contractor, said it has begun to move its Global Supply Chain Services unit from Johnstown, Pa., to its facility in Middle River.
The company’s lease in Johnstown expires in August and will not be renewed. Lockheed has 78 employees in Johnstown, and is working to make positions available to qualified employees willing to relocate to Middle River.
Additional positions will be filled locally as needed, the aerospace and defense giant said. Moving the unit is expected to save the company approximately $1.6 million annually. There are currently 420 employees at the plant at 2323 Eastern Blvd. in Middle River
