Maryland merchandise exports in the first half of 2013 set a new record, growing 5 percent to $6 billion, from $5.8 billion in the same period of 2012, the International Trade Administration reported on Thursday.
Key merchandise export categories include transportation equipment; computer and electronic products; chemicals; machinery manufactures; and waste and scrap.
The top destinations for exports were Russia, up 371 percent; Mexico, up 74 percent; United Arab Emirates, 57 percent increase; Saudi Arabia, 34 percent growth; and France, up 21 percent, year-to-year.
The data show “many of our local companies are … competing in global markets,” said Bill Burwell, Director of the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Baltimore.
