On the eve of the second inauguration of Gov. Larry Hogan, there was an earthquake off the coast of Ocean City.

And while it was not the “human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together” mass hysteria scenario described by Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman character in Ghostbusters, the event didn’t go unnoticed by the Republican once-and-future governor.

Four years ago, Hogan was sworn in on the steps of the State House as it snowed. The governor joked about the underworld freezing over as a Republican moved into Government House.

Standing on the steps of the State House Wednesday morning, he similarly joked with reporters.

“Last time I started my speech and it started snowing and I said, ‘They said it’s going to be a cold day in hell before we have a Republican governor.’ Last night, we had an earthquake off Ocean City,” Hogan joked with reporters. “We’re always stirring things up with the weather, I guess.”
