A pancake and waffle mix company from Washington, D.C. won Salisbury University’s Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation Shore Hatchery entrepreneurship competition.
Walt’s Waffles took home $30,000 in the pitch competition. Owner Chi Yan impressed the judges with his creativity in inventing the company’s signature product, the Original Waffle Bun, according to the university.
In all, organizers awarded $105,000 in business funding in the competition, which was held virtually for the first time.
Other award winners and the amounts of their prizes were:
Ferretly, a web platform that analyzes social media posts based in Easton, $25,000; K9 Precision LLC, an Eden-based maker of dog training products, $17,000; RunMitts LLC, a Baltimore maker of convertible thumbless sports mittens, $17,000; CarrTech LLC, a medical preparation device company in Frederick, $10,000; Door Robotics, a College Park-based provider of drones and software for virtual tours, $5,000; and Lemonade Love LLC, a Fort Meade-based maker of lemonade from locally-sourced fruit and produce, $1,000.
