Brandon Chasen’s career in real estate began nearly a decade ago when he and his business partners opened a series of CrossFit gyms and flipped single-family homes in the Baltimore area.
He eventually sought a more long-term opportunity in the multifamily side of the industry in Baltimore as he observed an abundance of foreclosed, vacant or rundown properties that could be transformed into modern 10-30 unit multifamily properties.
He and his team identified historic properties that needed repair and turned them into boutique luxury apartments with more affordable rent than high-rise luxury apartments. And they contributed to the rebuilding and revitalization of communities throughout the city.
Chasen Companies now operates more than 500 units across 37 buildings. During the pandemic, the team developed new strategies, systems and processes to ensure that safety and health were top priority, a philosophy that influenced hundreds of subcontractors working under the firm’s new standards.
As a leader, Chasen believes silos and red tape shouldn’t exist. Instead, collaboration is key. Chasen regularly hosts companywide, all-hands meetings where every employee has a chance to hear updates and share opinions, solutions and ideas.
“My vision for Chasen Companies is to grow strategically with purpose and to empower our leadership team to trust each other, make decisions and establish a corporate culture that distinguishes us from the majority of other real estate development firms,” he said.
He applies investment principles and engages experts to track opportunities in the marketplace. The approach recently led him to diversify the company’s investment strategy into yacht charters. To date, the company has a 101- and 110-foot yacht.
