There are as many as five generations in the workplace currently. All are very different in needs and the way they communicate. How do you lead through collaboration with all generations and the strengths you find in each one? In particular in the new workplace normal we are working through now how are the generations coming together differently to succeed as a team?
As a leader on a college campus I work with multiple generations on a daily basis. What unifies the generations at this time is resilience: we’ve been through unprecedented challenges, and yet the team keeps coming together to work. The key is really believing in the mission–from student employees to senior leaders, we all believe in the transformative power of a college education, and we work hard every day to make it happen.
Why is community service critical to your career and your personal leadership journey?
No leader gets to their position entirely on their own — various communities along the way have influenced our journey. Whether that influence was positive or negative, it is our obligation to take the lessons learned and strive to make the communities around us better.
