The Chesapeake Bay Balloon Festival is set to fly into Cedar Lane Regional Park in Bel Air Aug. 4-6, organizers announced Monday.
Alex and Terri Spies, a fifth-generation farm family, produce the balloon festival with childhood friend, Scott Powers. Powers’ grandfather farmed Indian Spring Farm in Harford County for 60 years and Alex’s great-great grandfather owned Rock Run Grist Mill. Together they started the American Farm Foundation (AFF) which will use events such as the Chesapeake Bay Balloon Festival to further its mission to better connect eaters with the source of their food, educate the public about agriculture and promote food from local family farms.
Now in its seventh season, Alex Spies said the decision to move the event from Cordova to Bel Air was helped by the value Harford County places on preserving its agricultural heritage and support for agritourism, which Spies said was a natural fit with the AFF’s mission, as well as support from Visit Harford, the Harford Economic Development, the Cedar Lane Sports Foundation and the county’s agricultural community.
In honor of Harford’s 250th Celebration, tickets will be offered at a special price of $20 per day through March 25. Children 12 and under are free. There will be also be limited onsite paid parking.
