What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
One thing I’ve learned over my career is the power of collaboration. Running a health system is a “team sport,” and our most valuable players are our people and the passion, skills and values they bring to our organization. Every day I am learning from our team members, and there is a power in our shared purpose of caring for our communities. We can only accomplish our goal by working together.
What’s been your biggest success?
LifeBridge Health is building a legacy of reimagining what a community health system can be. Along with top-notch patient care, I am proud of our many incredibly innovative initiatives, including this year’s opening of our regional medical campus with George Washington University. The biggest success we could hope for is to fulfill our mission to improve the health of people in our communities.
What are your hopes for the state or your community this year?
I hope we can improve social determinants of health keeping our region from being our best. Some may question why a health system is involved in community violence intervention, gun violence prevention, child abuse, etc. As we know, it’s better to prevent a heart attack. In a public health approach to violence, we aim to save physical, emotional and ongoing trauma to individuals and communities.
What do you do to unplug in your free time?
My wife might tell you that I almost always have my phone on me, and I actually do try to answer all my emails before going to bed. However, along with spending time with my family, I try to make exercise a priority, as it helps me both physically and mentally. I enjoy riding my bike and paddle boarding in the summer. I also enjoy traveling and have taken some wonderful trips with my family.
