Daniel Watkins, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, has dedicated his 17-year nursing career to advocating for and advancing mental health and substance use treatment. As the system senior director for behavioral health at Luminis Health, Watkins oversees multiple facilities and programs, ensuring high-quality care and regulatory compliance.

“I have always been drawn to help those that are too often neglected by the health care system,” Watkins said. “At Luminis Health, we know the importance of treating the whole individual, including their mental health and substance use.”

Watkins takes pride in his contributions to the design, building and occupancy of three new mental health facilities, focusing on creating safe, therapeutic environments for patients and staff. He is also passionate about mentoring and developing his team members, helping them achieve their professional and personal goals.

“I am a proud servant leader, someone who would do anything that I ask my team members to do,” Watkins explained. “No job is beneath me, and that is the same thing I expect from the leaders that I lead. We are all a team—we rise as one and we fall as one.”

Watkins’ commitment to mental health extends beyond his professional role, as he actively volunteers with organizations such as NAMI and serves on the Anne Arundel County Mental Health and Wellbeing committee.
