Community meeting set to discuss planned tunnel blasting in Ellicott City
Listen to this articleThe Howard County Department of Public Works will hold a community outreach meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5 in the Roger Carter Community Center’s Caplan Room, to discuss upcoming tunnel blasting for the upcoming North Tunnel project in Ellicott City.
The project is part of the county’s Ellicott City Safe and Sound plan.
The meeting will consist of a brief overview of the project and a detailed explanation of the blasting work, which is expected to begin on or about Friday, Dec. 20. The blasting work will take place on an as needed basis and weather permitting, is expected to be completed by winter 2027. The project’s construction manager, Kiewit-Traylor Joint Venture, will also review the blasting procedures, regulatory requirements and expectations. The blasting work will comply with regulatory requirements and has been planned to ensure minimal impact on the community.
Representatives from the project’s design team, Delve Underground and DPW staff, as well as personnel from the County’s Department of Fire and Rescue Services and Police Department, will also be on hand to discuss the project, answer questions and gather public comment.
