Marco V. Ávila, P.E. is a Professional Engineer registered in Maryland with over 38 years of experience in Civil Engineering, including 27 years at WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff. He serves as Vice President, Civil Engineer and Program Manager at WSP-USA.

Ávila has been President/CEO and Chairman of the Board at the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce since April 2019. Under his leadership, membership increased from 89 to 1,100 during his first term. He aims to expand membership to 5,000 by 2028.

What’s the most important thing you do?

As a civil engineer and Vice President at WSP USA, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to some of Maryland’s most transformative infrastructure mega projects.

As President & CEO of the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, helped our membership focusing on mentorship, partnerships, and professional development.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your career?

To stay humble, to listen and learn, to be kind, and above all, to strive every day to make a difference in someone’s life.

What’s the most significant challenge facing our state?

Ensuring that we work together, beyond politics or personal interests, to provide equal opportunity for everyone to succeed. Collaboration, inclusion, and shared purpose are the keys to moving our communities forward.
