Threats and acts of violence against judges and at courthouses have skyrocketed in recent years. After the 2023 murder of Circuit Judge , Maryland Supreme Court Chief Justice spearheaded the state’s efforts to study the issue and prevent further violence.

Fader was one of four current or former judges who spoke at a panel discussion on the issue of Wednesday afternoon at the University of Maryland in Baltimore.

At the panel, which was moderated by retired Maryland U.S. District Judge Paul Grimm, Fader talked about Wilkinson’s assassination, the unique risks facing state courts, the legislation he has pushed to establish a minimum security standard and more.
