DALLAS – The Container Store is starting to lay the groundwork for its transformation into the new hybrid The Container Store + Bed Bath & Beyond format – including at three Maryland stores.

A chainwide “store changing” event kicked off Friday, as 98 stores liquidate roughly 30% of their categories and skus to make room for Bed Bath & Beyond’s curated assortment.

“This is a reset with purpose,” said Jen Pape, senior vice president of stores at The Container Store. “We are actively reshaping our stores to make room for what’s next.”

The clearance event will take place across all locations and online at containerstore.com.

The work begins less than a month after Bed Bath & Beyond signed an agreement to acquire The Container Store along with the Sweden-based Elfa and Chicago-based Closet Works businesses for $150 million.

The locations, which average 21,000 square feet, will offer a combination of merchandise across bed, bath, storage and organization, kitchen, and entertaining. In addition, the hybrid stores will significantly expand their existing home services offering. In addition to modular and custom closets, the format will introduce flooring, lighting, kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom cabinetry.

The 98 locations undergoing a reset range across 34 states. They include the locations in , and .
