Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital
Sharon Hendricks serves as chief administrative officer of Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, one of the oldest, largest and most advanced nursing homes and geriatric hospitals in the region and in the state Maryland. Originally established in 1890, Levindale is a 330-licensed-bed facility offering complex medical care, long-term residential care, sub-acute rehabilitation and a specialty hospital that includes a high-intensity care unit and a nationally accredited in-patient acute rehab unit.
Hendricks has played a lead role in maintaining and enhancing the success of the facility and its legacy as a trusted, go-to resource for the community it serves. Under her leadership, the team standardized operations and implemented practices that reduced readmission rates, earning a spot in the “reward” status category as one of the top performers in the state for Maryland Hospital Acquired Complications and Readmissions. Levindale also recently completed its triannual Joint Commission with no conditional findings on the hospital side. The facility has been recognized by Newsweek as a Best Nursing Home in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Hendricks has been intentional about paying it forward, sharing knowledge, offering guidance and providing ideas about areas of improvement to build trust and help those she mentors achieve more than they may have thought was possible. One specific example is her relationship with Atinuke Awosika, a master of science in nursing and registered nurse who serves as a nurse executive at Levindale. Hendricks identified Awosika’s potential years earlier during their time together at Northwest Hospital, supported her departure to explore opportunities elsewhere and recruited her back in 2024. Awosika continues to advance in her career and now applies similar mentorship practices with her own team.
