Residential Treatment Services
Founded in 1853, Sheppard Pratt has, over the past year, made significant investments to strengthen the continuum of mental health care in communities across Maryland. With a workforce of 4,500, the organization has expanded access to critical behavioral health services at a time of growing need.
In Baltimore City, Sheppard Pratt opened a new residential crisis program alongside a long-term residential treatment program designed to support individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges. Together, the two dedicated facilities provide 32 beds of around-the-clock care, offering a safe and compassionate environment for stabilization and recovery while helping reduce unnecessary emergency department visits and hospitalizations.
The organization also launched an Adult Residential Treatment Services program in Towson, featuring 26 apartment-style units with 41 beds for adults who need structured mental health support as they build the skills necessary to live independently. Staffed at all hours, the program delivers comprehensive services that include therapy, medication management, substance use support and life-skills development, providing a critical bridge between intensive treatment and successful community reintegration.
At the Baltimore/Washington Campus in Howard County, Sheppard Pratt broke ground on a new 16-bed Residential Crisis Program. That program will offer a vital alternative to emergency departments and inpatient hospitalization, drawing on specialized expertise in treating individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
Through strategic expansion, collaboration with state and local leaders and an unwavering commitment to community well-being, Sheppard Pratt is reinforcing Maryland’s behavioral health infrastructure and ensuring more individuals can access timely, life-changing mental health care.
