(AP) A U.S. dean says he hopes a major could be accredited by a leading professional body by the time the school’s first students who are majoring in the field graduate in 2016. Andrew Phillips, the academy’s academic dean and provost, updated members of the academy’s Board of Visitors on Monday about efforts to create criteria for accreditation. Phillips says the academy is organizing a grassroots effort with other colleges and universities interested in creating accreditation criteria in consultation with ABET, a leading nonprofit accrediting agency for the disciplines of applied science, computing and engineering. Phillips says about 60 people from around the nation met to discuss cybersecurity accreditation during an ABET meeting in Arlington, Va., in July, and follow up meetings are planned.
