HAGERSTOWN — The Hagerstown Suns minor league baseball team says it has hired the city’s former mayor as sales director.
General Manager Bill Farley told The Herald-Mail newspaper Monday that Robert Bruchey has joined the club.
Bruchey was ousted as mayor in November by voters who rejected his proposal for a downtown stadium to replace 82-year-old Municipal Stadium, the Suns’ current home.
The team has threatened to leave town because of the stadium’s deficiencies.
Bruchey previously worked in automotive sales. Farley says his sales background and knowledge of the local business community will help the Suns increase revenue from sponsorships and group outings. Bruchey says minor league baseball is a rare amenity that he would like the city to retain.
