Baltimore seeks Cross Street Market redevelopment offers

The Baltimore Public Markets Corp. has posted a request for proposal for the redevelopment and lease of the Cross Street Market in Federal Hill.

The intent of this RFP is to promote the development of this property in a fashion that will achieve City objectives of creating an open marketplace experience, growing the local economy, strengthening communities, making necessary capital and aesthetic improvements, supporting a diversity of vendors, and improving affordable nutrition options for City residents, including the provision of fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, poultry and meats. Further, it is the intent of this RFP to promote redevelopment that fits within the context of the historic Federal Hill neighborhood.

The market is a major attraction particularly on weekends during the summer before baseball games. Residents will often crowd into the market to eat seafood and drink over sized draft beers as well as shop at various stalls in the market.

Baltimore is also currently in the process of planning to revamp the historic Lexington Market on the West Side.
