Renderings for a proposed redevelopment of Cross Street Market reveal an aggressive re-imagining of the Federal Hill landmark.

Renderings for the redevelopment proposed by Caves Valley Partners and War Horse LLC first appeared on SouthBmore.com on Thursday morning. It was announced in March that Baltimore Public Market Corp. had selected their proposal to redevelop the historic market.

At that time Robert Thomas, executive director of the Baltimore Public Markets Corp., said the plan presented by Cave Valley and War Horse were significant. But that may be an understatement based on the renderings released.

“It’s a strong market … but there are pieces of it that really can be improved. Partly in the fiscal plan but also we’re looking at the vendor, merchant configurations,” Thomas said at the time. “Some of those are fine and some could use a little juicing up.”

The current market is 29,803 square feet and was built in 1952. But there have been public markets on the site dating back to as early as 1945.
