Baltimore officials: 116 charges filed in drug network bust
More than a dozen members accused of involvement in a Maryland drug trafficking organizations were indicted on charges ranging from murder to conspiracy to kidnap, prosecutors and law enforcement officials announced Tuesday.
The indictment laid out 116 charges against 15 men and one woman accused of participating in two drug trafficking organizations near a Catonsville neighborhood where a fatal shooting was reported in February, news outlets reported.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration was first tipped off about the activity in the area in 2018 and began investigating further after 27-year-old Jasper Thomas’ death, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby and Baltimore police officials said during a press conference.
Jermol McCoy and Calvin Sanders are accused of running one of the drug organizations, according to the indictment. Sanders is charged with first-degree murder in Thomas’ killing. The indictment also alleges that Sanders authorized an attack on a rival drug crew member in September and that members plotted to kidnap a woman in October.
During the investigation, police said they seized more than 100 grams of suspected fentanyl and cocaine.
It was unclear when the defendants will appear in court.
