The Mount Vernon Place Conservancy announced Tuesday that Flower Mart at Mount Vernon Place will make its return to on April 29 and 30.

This is the first year that the event has been held since 2019, when the festival was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival will feature 45 local vendors, with nearly a dozen florists and greenhouses. Arts and crafts on flowers and green themes will be featured, as well as a wide variety of local food vendors.

Baltimore Tree Trust, UME Master Gardeners and the National Aquarium are among the nonprofits offering “greening” expertise to attendees. Free workshops and lectures on topics such as beekeeping, flower arranging, and urban gardening are being offered both days by a lineup of presenters, including sessions hosted by local flower growers who will discuss the important work they are doing.

In addition, the National Aquarium will offer two workshops for children and throughout the festival will have activities for children in its booth.

The festival will feature 20 musical performances by Baltimore-area musicians on two stages, with styles ranging from classic and contemporary jazz to opera, traditional folk and bluegrass, pop/R&B and more.

Flower Mart was founded in 1911 by the Women’s Civic League, an organization formed to advocate for better living conditions in the City of Baltimore. A focal point of the original festival was to encourage flower, plant, and vegetable gardening in the yards of homes and vacant lots, thereby making them green.

The Washington Monument will feature extended hours for the duration of Flower Mart and will sport beautiful flower arrangements in its interior. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the award-winning restoration and climb the 227 steps to observe the festival from above with a 360-degree view of the city.
