EXECUTIVE DIRECTORFor nearly three decades, Susan D. Malone has excelled in a career focusing on the arts. Since 2003, she has worked her way up the ranks at Wide Angle Youth Media, a nonprofit that is dedicated to collaborating with and amplifying the voices of Baltimore’s youth through creativity. As executive director, Malone is spearheading the efforts to showcase the importance of arts and cultural programs through the power of storytelling.
Malone’s extensive background in the arts education, creative workforce development and arts and cultural programs has equipped her with the skills required to make the organization a success. Under her leadership, Wide Angle Youth Media developed a comprehensive arts education program that reaches over 7,000 students in Baltimore. Working with the Alliance for Media Arts and Culture and the Maryland Department of Labor, Malone successfully created three federally recognized creative apprenticeship pathways and two social enterprise programs that support other nonprofits.
“By addressing critical issues affecting our youth, such as the need for life-sustaining wages and meaningful jobs, we can identify ways to contribute to broader initiatives aimed at creating pathways and opportunities. This collaborative approach intersects with city-wide and regional efforts, allowing us to make a meaningful impact in our communities,” Malone said.
In 2020, she was recognized by The Daily Record as a Most Admired CEO. She received the Media Mentor Award from Ithaca College in 2019, and through her leadership, Wide Angle was named Nonprofit of the Year by Baltimore City Paper in 2015.
