The Rev. Dr. Sakima Romero-Chandler serves as pastor of Dickerson African Methodist Episcopal Church and president and CEO of Romero Conway Howard Consulting Group LLC.

Romero-Chandler’s most significant work centers on community engagement and service to women and girls affected by interpersonal violence. Through advocacy, education and direct service, Romero-Chandler has supported survivors by connecting them to resources, ensuring they are heard and believed, and contributing to their healing and empowerment. Romero-Chandler’s efforts extend beyond individual support to strengthening community awareness and accountability, reducing stigma and promoting prevention at local, national and federal levels. This work has also helped inform efforts to reduce gun violence in communities of color.

A pastor and consultant, Romero-Chandler’s leadership approach was shaped by mentoring volunteers and staff at her church and other nonprofit organizations. Because those individuals were motivated by mission rather than compensation, Romero-Chandler learned to lead with empathy, encouragement and intentional, consistent and uplifting communication. Romero-Chandler found that sustaining engagement required recognizing contributions, creating a sense of purpose and fostering a supportive environment where they felt valued. That experience taught her that effective leadership is rooted in service, trust and care for the people doing the work.
