ANNAPOLIS — Gov. is pledging to work for greater protections for transgendered people in the next in the aftermath of a brutal attack on a woman in Maryland last month.

O’Malley, a Democrat, said Tuesday in a statement that it is clear more must be done to protect the rights of transgendered people.

A bill that would have protected transgendered individuals from housing and employment discrimination passed the House of Delegates in the session that ended in April. But the bill failed to pass the Senate.

A 22-year-old transgender woman was brutally attacked at a McDonald’s restaurant a week after the session adjourned. Two teens face assault and hate crime charges in the case.
