“We’re actively working to diversify our board and always use new positions as an opportunity to remake the face of preservation while also working to ensure our programs are being evaluated and tweaked to make DEIA a priority,” Redding said.
The 90-year-old organization aims to save places of historical importance and heritage for future generations through funding, advocacy, outreach, education and property redevelopment.
Redding, who has led the organization since 2014, said he is focused on using historic places to “make life better for all Marylanders,” a feat possible with the right support, funding and engagement.
“I feel a great sense of urgency about our work,” he said. “The promise of preservation is what keeps me going.”
Outside Preservation Maryland, Redding serves as the vice- chair of the National Preservation Partners Network and has served as vicechair of the Fredrick County Historic PerseverationCommission. He is a graduate of Shepherd University.
Constantly challenging his workers while also promoting employee well-being is a tool Redding says has contributed to low turnover at the organization. As CEO, he models this behavior by regularly spending time with family and avoiding weekend and night work.
“We work to create a culture of focused priorities and we celebrate targeted successes,” he said.
