OpenGov LogoThe City of District Heights Wednesday became the first city in Maryland to move its municipal accounting technology to a cloud-based enterprise resource planning software built for government.

Shortly after the city adopted its fiscal year 2025 budget, it announced an agreement with OpenGov Financials to transfer its fiscal operations from the accounting program QuickBooks to the cloud-based software.

District Heights joins more than 1,900 state, county and local governments nationwide using OpenGov software.

District Heights Mayor Cynthia Miller said the change will allow the city to improve the quality of life for its residents through a more cost-efficient way to manage its funds. City Manager David Street added the software’s new public reporting portal will allow its residents the ability to better understand the city’s budget and significantly improve communications. In addition, department leaders will now have the ability to make project priorities and decisions based on budget within a single platform, which will allow the city to operate more efficiently.
