The Baltimore County Public Library Wednesday announced the grand reopening of its Catonsville Branch after a 15-month, $7 million renovation project.
Improvements for the newly renovated Catonsville Branch include a modernized sprinkler system, upgraded HVAC and new windows and doors. Additionally, the branch features contemporary finishes, brand-new furnishings, a dedicated teen area and a state-of-the-art recording studio.
The recording studio, a free resource that will provide an invaluable opportunity for the Catonsville community, often referred to as “Music City,” to explore their passion for music, podcasting and audio production.
The renovation of the Catonsville Branch has been a project years in the making, beginning with the application for Maryland State Library Capital grant funding in 2019. Although the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic delayed progress, the project gained momentum in early 2023, with construction officially starting in March.
Originally built in 1963, the building required significant infrastructure upgrades, leading to an extended timeline. The $7 million renovation included $3.5 million in grants from the Maryland State Library Grant Program.
With the completion of the Catonsville Branch, the library is embarking on a $22 million renovation of the Woodlawn Branch, beginning in March 2025. There are additional plans for new buildings at the Randallstown and Essex branches in the years to come.
