Charles County Board of Education

Hon. Yonelle Moore Lee, Esq. currently serves as chairperson of the board of education of Charles County, where she oversees the superintendent of Charles County Public Schools, a district with 40 schools, approximately 29,000 students and nearly 4,000 employees.

Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Lee earned her juris doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of D.C. Her professional career spans legal roles at multiple federal agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Social Security Administration.

“It has been a genuine pleasure to work with Yonelle over the past two years. She is a collaborative, thoughtful and fearless leader who is unafraid of both the difficult conversations and being her authentic self,” wrote Nicole M. Kreamer, vice chairperson of the Charles County Board of Education.

Beyond her educational leadership, Lee manages Lee Law LLC and holds board positions with numerous organizations, including the Maryland Association of Boards of Education, United Way of Southern Maryland and the Charles County Scholarship Fund.

“My most significant accomplishment is being elected to serve on the board of education of Charles County, Maryland. Serving in public office is both an incredible honor and responsibility,” Lee said.

A breast survivor since 2017, Lee considers overcoming the disease and its complications among her most significant personal accomplishments. She was previously recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 2023 and has graduated from Leadership Maryland.
