CCBC launching Center for AI and Cyber Innovation
Community College of Baltimore County will open its new Center for AI and Cyber Innovation with a ribbon-cutting and luncheon on Oct. 29 in a celebratory event that will feature school and state leaders.
With Maryland Secretary of Commerce Harry Coker Jr. scheduled to be in attendance, the event will be hosted by CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Catonsville campus’s Health Careers and Technology Building.
The Center for AI and Cyber Innovation will unite the school’s high-technology programs under one roof, featuring an AI Lab that includes robotics platforms, an interactive humanoid robot and other technologies, according to a statement released by the college.
School officials hope the new center will position students to explore applications of machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing in real-world scenarios while providing hands-on opportunities to understand how AI-driven systems influence decision-making.
The new center also aims to prepare students to fill growing workforce demands in the emerging tech industry. The event’s luncheon will feature a panel of cybersecurity experts.
Launched this fall, CCBC’s Associate of Science degree in Artificial Intelligence introduces students to the foundational principles of artificial intelligence. The AI and cyber innovation center houses the Cyber Workforce Accelerator Program, which was collaboratively developed by the Maryland Association of Community Colleges and BCR Cyber.
CCBC officials cited Lightcast labor market data indicating that entry-level positions in the AI field are expected to grow by 11.6% in the Baltimore-Washington region over the next five years with a median regional salary of $136,000.
