Introducing The Daily Record’s 2025 Higher Education Power List

Listen to this article

Maryland has justly earned a reputation as home to some of the finest institutions of higher education in the nation.

Patrick Brannan

The men and women who make up our 2025 Higher Education Power List are among the reasons why.

They are presidents and other senior administrators leading their colleges and universities, policymakers charting a course for the future, advocates striving to improve access and equity and faculty members on the cutting edge of research and the liberal arts.

They are helping guide their institutions in the ever-changing field of education. Faced with growing challenges from the federal administration, questions about the cost and value of higher education and various other issues, these leaders face the challenges head on. They are working for or with programs that aim to bring new technology or change to the region.

Power List - Higher Education 2025 CoverThis list was chosen by our editorial team. We reached out to readers and others for input and perspective. Many of them are familiar to all of us, but some are known only inside their organizations or communities.

In this section, we explore how these leaders view the higher education landscape, how it now exists and what it may look like in the future. And we’ve tried to provide a glimpse into the kind of people they are, what drives them to excel, to serve, to teach.

This list is part of a series of Power Lists throughout 2025 that showcase the most influential figures in law, health care, business, financial services and other fields. You can find this and all our Power Lists on our website.

If you know of someone you think is a strong candidate for inclusion on our Power Lists, we’d love to hear from you. Just go to thedailyrecord.com/power-list-recommendation-form/ and tell us about the individual.

We hope you enjoy this Power List, and we welcome your feedback and suggestions.
