Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States
Emily Holliman serves as interim regional president and chief operating officer of Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States. She earned both an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree, financing her own education while supporting herself through both programs.
Holliman’s most significant professional accomplishment came during her tenure as chief executive officer of Pascack Valley Medical Center in northern New Jersey. The hospital had closed due to bankruptcy in 2007 and reopened in 2013 following strong community advocacy, but quickly returned to the struggles that had led to its original closure. Holliman joined as chief executive officer in 2015 and led the work to rebuild the facility and restore the standards of care and service it had previously maintained. Under her leadership, the hospital transformed from a struggling organization into one that excelled in quality, customer satisfaction and financial performance. The hospital consistently earned Leapfrog A safety grades during her tenure and received a Leapfrog Top Community Hospital designation in 2021 and a U.S. News & World Report Top Maternity Hospital designation in 2022.
Holliman has committed to developing the next generation of health care leaders. She engaged in a year-long sponsorship of an administrative resident from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, providing access to executive-level meetings, meaningful project work and a broad understanding of hospital operations. That mentee went on to serve as a hospital chief operating officer and has continued in executive leadership. Holliman believes that nurturing and developing emerging leaders strengthens the health care system.
