Baltimore one of IBM’s Smarter Cities

BALTIMORE — Baltimore is one of IBM’s Smarter Cities.

The computer giant says Baltimore is one of up to 100 cities it plans to help better use technology and information over the next three years in a $50 million grant program.

Besides Baltimore, IBM says cities it is working with include Austin, Texas; Rio de Janeiro; and Chengdu, China, and it is encouraging other interested cities to apply. Each city will receive between $250,000 and $400,000 in services and/or technology.

In Baltimore, IBM says its team analyzed the disconnect between residents, particularly young Baltimoreans, and city services. The company says its recommendations include improving coordination across agencies and community perception of public safety.
