Eight Marylanders were named Thursday night as of the 2011 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year . The winners and their categories are:

-Master Entrepreneur, Raymond A. “Chip” Mason, Legg Mason Inc., Baltimore.

-Consumer, Andy Franklin, Norris Automotive Group, Dundalk.

-Emerging, Bill Karpovich, Zenoss Inc., Annapolis.

-Global, Leslie D. Mancuso, Jhpiego, Baltimore.

-Health, John K. Hoey, Y of Central Maryland, Baltimore.

-Government, Sean Lane, BTS LLC, .

-Services, Sean Fenlon, DoublePositive Marketing Group Inc., Baltimore.

-Technology, Alan Snyder, BoxTone Inc., Columbia,

The 25-year-old awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

Winners were selected by an independent judging panel made up of previous award winners, corporate CEOs, private capital investors and other regional business leaders.

The names of the eight Maryland winners will be submitted for the national Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards, which are presented in November. The overall national U.S. winner then moves on to compete for the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year Award, who will be announced next June.

The Maryland awards were presented Thursday at a dinner at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront hotel.
