Maryland senators and delegates arrived in Annapolis on Monday bracing for a marathon 90th and final day of the 2013 legislative session.

About halfway through the day, however, Senate Minority Leader , R-Upper Shore, took some time to look back at the past 89 days.

“This session, Gov. [Martin] O’Malley and the far left-wing Democrats have held the state of Maryland hostage,” Pipkin said.

He cited what he believes is excessive spending, noting how the governor crossed the “three billion” mark (referring to the total amount of annual taxes increased since 2007) as well as other notable bills that passed this session, including stricter gun control laws and an increase in the gas tax.

“It has been a historic session for the wrong reasons,” Pipkin said.
