Business Roundtable study documents trade benefits

International trade supported an estimated 767,000 jobs in Maryland and generated $11.7 billion in goods exports in 2012, according to a new report by the Business Roundtable.

Among the conclusions: Maryland’s trade-related employment grew four times faster than total employment from 2004 to 2011; Maryland’s goods exports have grown two and a half times faster than state GDP since 2002; and 89 percent of Maryland exporters are small- and medium-sized companies with fewer than 500 workers.

The study is part of a state-by-state analysis by the Business Roundtable of the benefits of international trade.
