Casino at Ocean Downs plans to expand

The Casino at Ocean Downs said it received approval from the Worcester County Planning Commission to construct a 35,000-square-foot expansion plus a back-of-house mezzanine adjacent to the casino and the Ocean Downs Racetrack.

Company officials said the new building will hold a racing sports restaurant to include simulcast wagering with a view of the harness racetrack, a large storage area and larger back-office space. The casino also wants to add 10 table games (it presently has none), but needs to solve seasonal staffing logistics before seeking approval from the Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Control Commission, officials said.

The casino does not plan to increase the number of slot machines, but will move some of its 800 machines into the new space.
